Albright College Sponsors Fashion Showcases

Throughout the years Albright College located in Reading, PA has put on many Fashion Showcases on and off campus. These shows have been successful with the help of students and professors.

In 2009, the theme of the Fashion Showcase was ‘Peace, Love and Fashion’. The logo was created by Stephanie Franchetti who was a senior at Albright College. She was a dedicated fashion major and she held numerous leadership positions.

The logo incorporated the sign for peace, a heart for love and a hanger to denote fashion. Danielle Catalani was a sophomore who was asked to model a dress made by Amanda Haeckler, a freshman who was a fashion major. The dress came to right above the knee and was a beautiful shade of maroon in a size two.

There were twenty student models in this showcase. They were all wearing clothing designed by fashion students. This show was opened to the community as it is very responsive to Albright activities and events. Refreshments followed with the cooperation of the faculty and support of students. The photos that are shown are from this 2009 event.

In 2010, as Fashion Week began worldwide, Berks County had its own Fashion Inspiration with the Goodwill Fashion Show called ‘Secondhand Chic’. One of Albright’s Fashion Professors, Susan Golembiski, co-coordinated this show that was held in the Designers Place in West Reading.

Ms. Golembiski teaches Fashion Tech Lab ‘sewing’ in Alumni Hall and also runs her own business. She was asked to reconstruct, design, put together and alter many garments from different goodwill stores all over Pennsylvania.

Fashion Shows can be used to sponsor and raise money for various charities and programs. This event raised money to help people with disabilities. It was to Albright’s credit that one of its professors took a leading part in this successful venture.

The field of fashion involves more then just designing and making clothing. Andre Jackson, a sophomore in Fashion Design and Merchandising was right when he said, “I love to see what people do in the fashion department besides making clothing. I enjoy learning about different classes and different responsibilities in the fashion business.” There are many avenues for fashion majors to take in the field of fashion.

This year on May 7, Albright College will present the ‘American Girl’ Fashion Showcase held in the Campus Center. The American Girl Theme is meant to embody the wide diversity of women in America and the many styles and fashions that are available to women in America.

America is one big melting pot of different races, ideas and personalities, which allows for a wide range of garments and models to be showcased on this years runway.

Club Vogue, a Fashion Club on campus, has worked hard to determine the theme and its name. Many possible themes were discussed and voted on to decide what would work best.

Michelle Dovale, a sophomore in Fashion Merchandising and Design stated, “Being involved in Club Vogue is a great learning experience.” The basic motive of Club Vogue is to take what their members learn in the classroom, apply it to real life and have fun doing so.

Andre Jackson, the President of this Club says, “We want to make sure we have fun but we also want to keep in mind that fashion is our job.”
